Within the office furniture and services industry the Atkinson Group has led the way with the clearance, Reuse and Recycling of office furniture.
How We Work
We instigate a full product and site survey to identify and confirm product characteristics including hazardous waste issues and best routes for clearance from clients buildings such as lift access, stairwells and protection points. We then produce in partnership with our clients a full programme of works detailing Reuse/Recycle objectives and key performance targets resulting in truly minimising the impact on the environment and helping the community for our clients.
Reuse - (The Best Form of Recycling)
Our Reuse programmes benefit social projects and worthy causes e.g. Hospitals, Colleges, Schools, Charities etc. This is an example of ACS working very closely with one of its clients and what they have been able to achieve as follows:
“We’re moving offices and have excess furniture we don’t want to throw away. So we’re offering it to nearby social enterprises. It’s better for you, for us and for the environment”. This is known as the Social Enterprise Furniture Exchange. “The Furniture Exchange is available to members of the Social Enterprises Club that are within the M25 radius. We will do our best to accommodate all requests but supply is limited so we will contact you and confirm what is available”.
Organisations list their requirements on an order sheet, having viewed a very simple catalogue listing approximately 10 different types of furniture that are available.
Recycling
Recycling levels of up to 95% are being achieved for furniture processed.
Uniqueworktop recycling for laminate, melamine and veneer resulting in 0% to landfill.

Waste Carriers Licence and Waste Brokers Licence – issued by the Environment Agency
